                    - football league (boys and girls)
                    - basketball league
                    - trampolining
                    - rowing
                    - gymnastics
                    - multisports
                    - fit for kids
                    - sportshall athletics (Yrs 3,4,5 and 6)
                    - Toplink Festival
                    - Uni hoc
                    - Tag
                    - Outddor and adventurous residential (Edale)
                    - Cheerleading

                    - And more!

Gosh!  Have ou childen really done all this?!  And still had time for SATs!  At Bonington we truly believe that PE provides our children with an outlet for their energies (that might be misplaced otherwise) and hope that we will be able to repeat these wonderful experiences next year!

International Netball Match
This year Henry Mellish took the girls to watch an International Netball match at the Birmingham Arena. England played South Africa and ENGLAND WON! This trip  was a highlight as there were still playing inthe City netball leagues and it was a chance to see International Player at there best to pick up any skills and ideas for there own team tactics.
We joined forces with Djanogly and went down to brimingham together to watch the match, despite sitting so far up from the netball court the girls commentated throughout the match, cheered and chanted, well being Live on Sky TV wouldnt you!
They had a great time and requested that we do it all again next year!

X-BIKES
We had a vsit from x bikes where students could have a go and expeirence X biking within school. On the back of that expereince and how much fun the students had, We managed to secure a 10k bid for the new  X BIKES that can be used both in and out of the currculum to raise the profile of cycling and to also introduce new ideas for PE AND SCHOOL SPORT.
The bike sessions will start in 2007/8.

Get Girls more Active
Kelly is the  National School Sport Champion, she is working with the Youth Sport Trust and Norwich Union to help them get more girls active.
The girls spent the whole day with Dame Kelly Holmes, as well as participating in several different activities with the girls.
The girls thoroughly enjoyed the day they took part in Dance and  Army Training assault course. So much so that in competition with Dame Kelly Holmes one of the girls twisted her ankle!!! A day not to be forgot in a hurry!
They also worked in groups to design there own action plans, this included ways to help raise the profile of PE for girls within school, from uniform, to changing room and facilities.
A great day, but we will need to work hard in 2007/8 to make sure we reach some of the targets planned!
A great day out with Dame Kelly Holmes,  raisingthe the students worked through task that allowed them to work as a group

Potted Sports Festival
Castle Sports Association hosted a Potted Sports Festival at Henry Mellish
Sports Centre on 25th April. There were 80 children with Disabilities participating from both special schools and mainstream secondary schools.
The event included a range of sports, Kurling, Floor
Lacrosse, Table Top Games, Basketball, Athletics and more.....with Kurling being the most popular event of the day!
The event was supported by 7 Volunteer sports Leaders from Henry Mellish
school who got involved in leading the activity stations, showing the children what to do and encourage them in all the sports.
The event was a great success with all the participating schools giving
great feedback as to the quality of the sports leaders and how they were very positive in engaging with the participants.
A huge thank you to all the sports leaders and hopefully they enjoyed the
experience of working with young disabled children. They all clearly gained in confidence throughout the event.

Centre of excellence Visit
Henry Mellish visited Loughborough University "National Sports Centre for Excellence" last Wednesday. This was organised on behalf of the "Quadrant C Leading Edge Partnership" [of Four Schools - including Henry mellish School & Sports College] who kindly funded the whole visit.
A group of Year 9/10 students took this opportunity to study and evaluate sports provision on a national basis, and then compare this with sports provision locally.
By September this group will have produced their own DVD and Powerpoint presentation. This will then placed them on the website to enable any interested person, student or school to view the visit and the comparisons made. This can then be a secondary source for investigating Sports Provision - which is compulsory in all Key Stage 4 PE and Sport examinations.
The facilities are all superb and attract elite sports players from around the world e.g. England Cricket Team, Inter Milan FC, International Athletics Grand Prix events, British Cycling Team, GB Tennis Team, England Netball team, GB Swimming Teams, England Ladies Football Team [see picture] etc. etc.
The morning was spent visiting and investigating the facilities on a tour led by Ian Gaunt [awesome - the tour that is] and the afternoon saw our students receiving SAQ sessions from Lisa Jones - who plays Netball for England and rugby for Wales!
The experience was fantastic and it is anticipated this will become an annual event on the school calendar - open to any student who has an attendance rate of 90% or better.
We have also invited Lisa to spend a whole day with us in September 2007 to work specifically with our girls and explain how she has used sport to develop herself and forge a new career i.e. teaching. Let's hope she wishes to do her teaching practice with us next year!!!

Year 7 City Schools Athletics Championships 2007
How proud are we!? Small school in numbers - not in talent, technique and determination! Out of the 17 schools in Nottingham we finished 5th overall behing the High Schools, Bluecoat, Trinity and Fernwood.
Year 7 Boys finished in 4th place.
Year 7 Girls finished in 6th place.
Although we have only 590 students in total we continue to perform well above all logical expectation - by logic and student numbers we should be near to last place, but the students have other ideas - and so do the staff and parents!
WELL DONE to all involved [including James Hayden - NOTTS AC] for all the extra time spent in practice sessions - all squeezed into weeks filled with other practices too e.g. basketball [final next week v. Trinity], rounders, triathlon, netball [Youth Games next week], Improver GCSE/BTEC sessions, "The Mellish Factor" auditions, trip to the Antarctic etc. etc.

Specific results will follow soon!
